In the late 1700s art patron Johann Wolfgang von Goethe recognized that there was an eighth color in the spectrum. When looking through a glass prism, Goethe would occasionally see this new color appear in the spectrum, just between red and violet. Thus, the color magenta was born.
Magenta is situated between red and purple on the spectrum, and nobody is sure if that means magenta is the first color on the spectrum, or the last. One thing’s for sure though, if you mix 2 parts red and 1 part purple together, you’ll wind up with the perfect shade of the eye-catching color. Red is notoriously associated with boldness, aggression, love, and stimulation. Purple is pensive, posh, and linked to royalty. Magenta shares the properties of red and purple, making it simultaneously stimulating and regal. Many say magenta is representative of harmony and balance. The color is also paired with positive transformation and spiritual enlightenment.
